3 Weeks In the Blink of An Eye

So ya, as the title explains, the past 3 weeks have gone by so fast. Quite a bit has happened so let me begin.

I applied for an internship at this one engineering firm called SSI. I applied not knowing if they even had such positions but provided a motivational letter even though they didn’t ask for one stating why I wanted to work for them. So about 2 weeks ago I got an email saying that they wanted me to come in for an interview. Looking back at it, I went in kinda unprepared. It wasn’t till after the interview (thankfully) that I heard a couple of horror stories from friends. Any-who they asked questions, I gave them answers, while trying to sound confident, not cocky while still being humble. Basically convincing them that I’m awesome, that I can bring a lot to the table so they should hire me :P About a week ago I got a phone call and ya, I GOT IT! It’s pretty awesome. The experience, the CV, making a little money as well, I’m excited for all of it. I’m going to work for them from June till the end of the year, while I complete my degree. It’s going to be hard I have a feeling but I can do this! I want this! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about working in an office with strangers. During the interview I was asked if I had a girlfriend…awkward. Being a student really sheltered me from the real world where people arent ok with homos but I know I’ll be able to deal. Its simple, keep your personal life separate from your work life. It would be complicated if I met my personal life at work BUT i’m over thinking things and I don’t have to think about it till June after my exams. Thats probably the biggest thing to happen to me so far.

If you’re any friend of mine you’ll know that I play Ultimate. Well it was Nationals last weekend (27th-29th April) and it was awesome. I found an energy I never knew I had. I ran hard, played hard and had an awesome time doing it with a bunch of people I’ve really grown close to. There are a couple of exchange students that I’m going to miss like crazy when they leave for home (the States). I can’t really explain it but when you train with people almost everyday and then play with them for an entire weekend. Sunrise to sunset. Pushing yourself to your limits and then beyond only because you want to be better for yourself and your team, you really bond with people in a way thats not common. There isnt a day that goes by where I dont think about all of them. How much I miss their voices and faces. The feeling of team. It’s part of the reason why I love this sport. The spirit of the game is something every team, well almost every team, takes seriously and you make friends with people from all over the country, growing a sport thats awesome. I really could go on forever but I won’t. The team I play for, The UCT Tigers, we came 6th out of 16 teams which is bloody good. Check all the results and stats here. I cant wait for the next tournament which is the Saturday actually :D Haha, but the next big weekend one is in October, it’s called Rocktober which I hear is in P.E. Bring it on!!

Both UCT Teams, The Flying Tigers and Crash Car Chameleon

A few other things have happened since. We had our Ultimate club fines night which was nuts! I was fines mater along with a friend of mine and while I want to tell you what happened, I think this time what happened at fines is going to stay at fines. I can say though that I have never done things like that before and probably never will, but my word was it fun! I’m a little nervous for when the photos come out. Ha!

Now it’s time to work my face off. Got exams coming soon and pretty big project hand ins. The next couple of weeks I feel are going to be intense. Jesus please give me strength. I’m going to need it.

Till next time. Turn Up The Love
